Transition services may be billable under the School-Based Health Services Program as Developmental and Assistive Therapy (DAT). The exception, as with all DAT services, is that services listed as “Exclusions from School-Based Health Services Billing” are never billable. Among the exclusions are employment skill development or any vocational services such as Automotive, Carpentry, and Culinary Arts. To determine if transition services meet the criteria of Developmental and Assistive Therapy, the School-Based Health Services Manual provides a Developmental & Assistive Therapy Checklist. This checklist is designed as a guide to assist in determining whether or not a service is billable as Developmental and Assistive Therapy.
