What does it mean to be a happy customer? Is there more to a customer’s happiness than good communication and customer service?
For businesses in any venue, customers are an important piece of success. Without customers, a business cannot flourish. How a business effectively achieves happy customers may vary from industry to industry.
How to Make Your Customers Happy suggests there are 4 ways to make a customer happy – effective communication, taking responsibility, being kind, and being consistent. While one might agree these are important aspects, what else might make customers happy?
In the case of the Market Basket boycott[i] which occurred in August 2014, a major reason the customers stood behind the employees was because the company) treated its employees well with bonuses, excellent benefits, and a decent work environment. For those customers, it was important to support a cause because of the happiness employees.
Happy customers may result from relationships formed with those within the company. Isn’t it fabulous to have the type of connection where you can have small talk or share some family news (your new child learning to roll over or walk or your teen driving for her first time) while still accomplishing the task at hand? Putting some personal aspect to the person at the other end of the phone or on the other side of the email, can bring about happy customers.
The most important aspect may simply be the respect you are shown despite what is happening in the world, your life, or with the product you are using. It is reassuring to know you are not simply a number, but a valued person – even when things may not be going as well as you need them to be.
Whether your happiness as a customer comes from your appreciation of effective communication, how valued you may feel when an employee truly listens to you, or because you believe you’ve been treated with courtesy and respect – we want to hear about it.
